FESTOOL Vacuum

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

So I’m trying to find a part for my FESTOOL Vacuum that the movers forgot to send…and I find Stu in Tokyo who has a dungeon wood-working shop…I know cause I found his blog.  I found his blog because he had a link on Family Woodworking. That link came up because it had FESTOOL Vacuum in the title…But still no part…So I gave up on Google and typed festoolusa.com into my browser…figured out that I have a “dust extractor” and not just any old vacuum…Anyway…finally found the page I was looking for so this saga comes to an end.

Oil!

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

So I wondered to myself….What does google give you when you search for “when will oil run out”….

1. A 2005 article that says we could run out 2008 or 2040…Interesting because it has more than one viewpoint.
2. And somehow this came up second…Life After the Crash. It was so long I didn’t read it….I’m trying to watch TV and talk to my wife while reading the page….

And randomly, I typed it http://www.321energy.com/…. And there is an article on oil

I’ll stop here…

Building a Better (Jet) Fighter

Monday, January 28th, 2008

I googled F-16 and found this Wiki F-16.

In a nutshell: The F-16 was developed because the “fighter mafia” wanted a more maneuverable airplane and Congress thought the F-15 was too much…The F-15 grew out of the idea that the F-111 was trying to do too much and wasn’t going to be a very good fighter. The F-111 grew out of the idea that the USAF and USN should save money by purchasing similar equipment (to save on development costs) so they spent a bunch of money trying to make everyone happy and ended up with a plane that didn’t, so the Navy liked the F-14 better and did not adapt the swiss-army-knife-F-111.  In 1971 Congress wasn’t happy with all this and pushed for a new lightweight fighter.  This eventually drove the YF-16 and YF-17 prototypes with General Dynamics’ YF-16 winning the USAF contest, and the Northrup Grumman YF-17 morphing into the F/A-18A.

Obviously, there is much more to this story.

Next time, I’ll plug in F-35 and F-22 and see what pops up….Happy Surfing.

Creative License

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

While perusing the 26 Jan Slashdot Headlines, I spotted an interesting title “Pirate Yourself, Become a Best-Seller” which led me to the Creative Commons License page and then on to “The Millions: Giving it Away for Free“. Something on the Slashdot Page took me on a search for Coral Cache link which led me directly to the Wikipedia entry (2nd link on the Google search page).  Then I went back to what I was really supposed to be doing on the computer….

Timeslip…

Monday, January 21st, 2008

I took a trip on the Internet Wayback Machine to visit my first website (now defunct) which I began in 2000 as my first foray onto the web. You can get a glimpse of my life as it existed in 2001 through distance-inc.com in terms of time and space, but is only a drop in the bucket of the ever expanding Internet. It also shows that you can’t erase what you place on line….so post and create with care….
